I was unfortuante enough to have to go to the hospital this week, but am on the way to recovery at home now.  I was very pleased with the care I recieved at Mercy.  The staff were all freindly and seemed to genuinely care for my comfort and well-being.  The room was nice (for a hospital) and they have made vast improvements in the cafeteria since the last time I was there for the birth of my baby girl 18.5 months ago.

When I was about to leave there today, I couldnt help but remember another time when I was very, very ill and had to go first to Mercy then by ambulance to Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  The staff at Mercy was just as nice then (about 12 years ago).  One of the nurses even came to my work a few months later to see if i made it through a very serious illness.   Both times at Mercy were very different experiences than what I had at Shawnee Mission Medical.  Though I wont deny that they saved my life at Shawnee, the staff seemed less interested than they do here.  Maybe its the small town life, maybe its the size of the hospital and the work load on the staff, Im not sure.  But, my experiences at Mercy have been far superior to the large city hospital and I feel it is a real asset to this community.

Also have to give props to the staff at Candlewood Medical.  You guys are great too.

Does the proposed Discovery Center have a chance of being viable?  It will take 70,000 visitors a year to make it self-supporting according to consultants. For the sake of argument, say 20% of the residents of Manhattan and another 10,000 out-of-town football fans visit the Center in a given year. Still there would have to be another 50,000 people a year come here just to visit this thing. How many people driving down I70 will go 10 miles out of their way to visit a Center dedicated to prairie grass? How many residents of surrounding towns will come here more than once to “discover” things they already know about? It doesn’t look promising to me.

If out of fear or personal preference science continues to refuse to publicly refute and denounce the scientific methods anti smoking groups like CAM are using to base and tout their personal agendas,  how can we trust that if provided welcome into our community they will not  for either personal gain or fear do so again?

One poster asked me to check minutes on the pavilion issue so I did, and found another interesting tidbit.

Why is it seemingly ethical and OK to privately solicit half a million dollars from your son's company but yet Strwan finds it necessary to abstain from a public vote for the same company relating to bonds?  He obviously made the judgment to abstain based on some "appearance of impropriety" that may present itself to the public based on his son's employment, correct?

Saw somewhere that this was to be announced last week, but never saw/heard anything else about it.  Anyone here know who was selected as Riley County Fair King, Queen?

Can anyone tell me why it's taking so long for the road work on Wildcat Creek Road?  I've worked at Alorica since Sept '07 and ever since around oct '07, there has been road construction going on and have to go past the airport and then  turn right onto Wildcat Creek Road? I drive from Clay Center and take keats road, turn onto Scenic Drive. I used to turn onto Eureka Drive, but since the road construction, have to go past the airport to Wildcreek Creek Road. With the cost of gas, this is very aggravating to have to drive those extra miles. Somedays there aren't even any workers there. The road construction I believe is only a couple of miles. When is this to be completed?

How about a winnig season and maybe even a bowl victory first. Of course if RP goes JF will surely follow. Maybe then Coffman will get a fair look.

Someone asked me what games I think we will win this year...and this is it:

Our 1st 4 games we should win.

Texas Tech-Could go either way
@ Tex A&M-Could go either way
@ Colo-We should beat them
OK-Could go either way OK always loses to a BIG 12 team
@ KU-yes because they lost most of there defense
@ MU-yes because they lost 3 starting OL
NE-Could go either way
IS-We should beat them

We should win a guaranteed 6 games at least...and then all we have to do is take 1 or 2 other games in conference play...we are going to be good this year you will see soon my bloggers...and who cares that our 1st 4 games are easy...Louisville might be tuff but KU had a cupcake schedule last year and they benefited from it greatly.  We should of won more games last year but we lost them because we had some loser players...but those guys are gone.
