Cats win and find BCS hope in weekend outcomes
Staff photo by Sarah Midgorden

Ryan Mueller (40), Tysyn Hartman (2) and Nigel Malone (24) join fellow defenders in celebnbrating a key stop during Saturday's 30-23 victory over Iowa State.

  • The game
Tramaine Thompson caught a 68-yard touchdown pass and John Hubert ran for 120 yards and the winning score as Kansas State beat Iowa State 30-23 Saturday in a rain-delayed season-ender at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
  • Cardiac Cats
This was K-State's 10th victory, and its 8th by seven points or fewer. The other margins:
    Eastern Kentucky 3; Miami 4; Baylor 1; Missouri 7; Texas Tech 7; Texas A&M 3; Texas 4
  • Counting to 10
The 2011 team becomes only the eighth to win 10 or more games. The 1997 through 2000 and 2002 teams all won 11. The 1995 and 2003 teams won 10. Measured by wins, the 11 best teams in KSU history were all coached by Bill Snyder.
  • Reward
Oklahoma State's victory over Oklahoma Saturday night ruined K-State's hopes of winning a one-third share of the Big 12 championship, but enhanced the Cats' prospects of playing in a BCS bowl game.
