Kansas State dominates Jayhawks on water
The Kansas State Wildcats put together a dominating performance over its rival Kansas Jayhawks on Tuttle Creek Lake on Saturday winning the Sunflower Showdown by a final score of 17-3. K-State won four of the five races in commanding fashion en route to the win to close the fall season.
The Wildcats opened the event by claiming the 2nd Novice 8 race by nearly 28 seconds over Kansas to earn the first point toward the overall team score. K-State then dominated the 1st Novice 8 competition winning by nearly 31 seconds. KU's lone win came in the Varsity 4 race with the Jayhawks edging the Wildcats by eight seconds.
The domination continued in the Varsity 8 races with K-State crossing the line in 6:26.00 in the 2nd Varsity 8 competition to best KU by 12 seconds. The Wildcats closed the day on the water with its final strong finish clocking in at 6:20.85 in the 1st Varsity 8 to defeat Kansas by nearly 10 seconds.
With the fall portion of the season coming to an end the Wildcats will focus on closing the semester strong in the classroom before getting back to the water for the spring schedule when K-State will open at the Longhorn Invitational in March.
