Kansas State women's tennis held a 3-1 lead on Saturday afternoon over Wichita State, but the Shockers closed out the match at Cottonwood Racquet Club with three singles wins and secure the match win, 4-3.
K-State (3-3, 0-0 Big 12) won the doubles point for the fourth time this season. The Wildcats received doubles wins from its number one and three tandems. The duo of Antea Huljev and Nina Sertic won for the fifth straight time with an 8-6 decision over Lutfiana Budiharto and Stephanie Dalmacio. The win by Huljev and Sertic clinched the doubles point for K-State on Saturday.
In singles action, the Wildcats received wins from freshman Carmen Borau Ramos and sophomore Petra Chuda. Borau Ramos won for the second time this spring with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Lily Wakim at the number six position.
Chuda also won her second straight match and her third in her last five outings with a 6-4, 6-4 result over Florentina Hanisch. Chuda is now 8-9 this season in singles action.
Wichita State (3-5) started there run to the match win with a three-set win at number one singles by Budiharto over Huljev, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. The Shockers clinched the match at number two singles with another three-set win, as Dalmacio endured Sertic, 6-7 (10-8), 6-4, 3-6).
Kansas State will now embark on a five-match road trip, which includes the start of Big 12 play. The Wildcats will travel to Tulsa, Okla., next weekend to face North Texas on March 6 and Tulsa on March 7.
