AUSTIN, Texas – The Kansas State Wildcats hung with the No. 3 Longhorns in the first two sets but could not come away with a win on the road. K-State fell in three sets with Texas utilizing its block and multiple weapons to sweep the Wildcats.

K-State (14-3, 4-2 Big 12) were led by Rita Liliom with 15 kills. Lauren Mathewson led the team with 10 digs on the night. Texas (10-2, 4-1) was led by Destinee Hooker with 16 kills. She was joined by Ashley Engle in double digits with 10. The Longhorns out-blocked the Wildcats 11.5-1 for the match to get the sweep 25-20, 25-21, 25-16. K-State also hit .159 for the match compared to UT's .482.

The Wildcats built an early lead not allowing Texas to win back-to-back points until going on a 4-0 run to tie the set at 10-10. From there K-State struggled to earn consecutive points as the Longhorns extended their lead to 20-15.

The Wildcats cut into the lead to trail by only three points but a run of three straight kills from Destinee Hooker put K-State in a corner. Two straight points for the 'Cats would not be enough as the Longhorns won the opening set 25-20. Hooker led the Longhorns with nine kills in the first set and hit .643. Nataly Korobkova had four kills and Liliom added three. The Longhorns hit an impressive .607 as a team in the first set while K-State hit .290.

The Longhorns were able to hang with the Wildcats and build a small early lead 9-7 only earning three of their first nine points. K-State accounted for six of UT's early points with attack and service errors. The Wildcats fell behind by as many as six points at 19-13 but chipped away at the Longhorn lead to pull within two points.

Texas was able to keep a long rally alive with a low dig on an attack by Liliom. The Longhorns extended the rally and won the point to go up 24-21. The Longhorns won the next point on a kill from Ashley Engle to go into the locker room leading 2-0 at the intermission. K-State had another solid hitting performance swinging at a .222 clip in the second set but were again outdone by the Longhorns, who hit .414.

In the third set, K-State opened an early lead and forced the Longhorns to use a timeout. However, coming out of the timeout Texas won three straight points to even the set at 5-5. Texas put together another short run to gain an 8-6 advantage after the Wildcats hit into two consecutive Longhorn blocks.

The Longhorns extended their lead with another four-point run to move ahead 14-9. K-State got within five points but could not overcome the Longhorns attack and block. Texas built its lead up to nine points, which was too much for the Wildcats to come back from falling 25-16 in the third set.

K-State will return home to face the Missouri Tigers at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ahearn Field House. The match will be televised on FSN Kansas City.
