MHS wins district championship

This shouldn't be a surprise anymore.

Anyone who has followed the Manhattan High football team could have seen it coming.

With just six seconds left to play Friday against Junction City at Bishop Stadium, and trailing 7-3, Ryan Wilkinson hurled a pass into the endzone and right into the hands of a Blue Jays defender.

But the ball popped out, jarred loose by Derek Campbell, and Cale Miller was there to scoop the ball up before it hit the ground, winning the game 9-7.

The win gave the Indians (9-0) the  Silver Trophy (emblematic of having beaten Junction City), and an undefeated district championship. Although MHS beat Blue Valley and Emporia in similar last-play fashion earlier in the season, this was different.
