It will be the perfect weekend to tour the prairie by bus. Daily tours through Oct. 26 are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. are available to experience the beauty of the prairie and learn some fun facts on this 90-minute prairie tour. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for under 4. For more information, call (620) 273-8494. The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is two miles north of Strong City on K-177.

Also at the preserve is an authentic horse-drawn haying and raking demonstration 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Visit with living history interpreters as they prepare the noon meal for the harvesters. Listen for the clang of the blacksmith throughout the day as he demonstrates the art of metallurgy.

Little Apple Cat Fanciers ACFA Championship and Household Pet Cat Show, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Also Sunday. ACFA sanctioned cat show exhibiting purebred and nonpurebred cats from around the country. Many vendors selling feline themed products. Admission: $4 adult, $3 child/senior, and under 5 free. One dollar of every admission donated to Riley County Humane Society for foster care program. Children's Day at the Preserve, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The young ones are able to pet farm animals, feed chickens, or clean stalls. Kids can earn a Spring Hill Ranch certificate after doing their chores.
