You  might be new to this community  along with thousands of other people moving here.  This area is  experiencing a growth spurt due to the boosting of troop strength at Fort Riley.  So if you're a newcomer, welcome.  We're glad you're here.  We hope you like it.

This publication is for you.  It's a special service of the Manhattan Mercury, which is the largest news and information source in this part of the state. The Mercury has been around as a daily newspaper for nearly a century, and its website, www.themercury.com, is winning awards in that relatively new field.
The idea behind this section is to provide you with some information –– both the important stuff and the entertaining –– about your new community.  Those of us who have been around awhile know it's a great place to live.  But we don't always explain that very well, and we don't always realize ourselves all the resources available here.

Even if you're a lifer here, we hope you'll find some good information in this publication.  We'll be back with our annual Guide to Manhattan edition in the fall, which will be an update and extension of this publication.  But we thought that it was worth getting out a special edition now, as all the newcomers start arriving.
