Michael Hadley

As I begin writing these columns, I thought it might be useful to tell you a little about myself.

I came to Manhattan in 1975 as the Debate Coach for the university and stayed until 1980. If you want to see what was accomplished during that period, check out the trophy cases in Nichols Hall on campus.

I left Kansas State in 1980 to become Speech Department Chairman at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. I left there in 1985....I like the five year interval, it gives you the chance to move on before you get completely fed up with what you are doing...after that I moved to Tucson, Arizona where I was the vice-president of a public relations firm....I learned a lot from that experience...chiefly, never to trust public relations firms, or "Human Resources" experts.

I returned to teaching in 1986 in Oklahoma, NSU ,and remained there until 1993, at which time I moved back to Manhattan.

My current job is as a consultant on higher education (which may become, if it hasn't already, the newest oxymoron). I travel all over the world on Navy ships teaching college courses and counseling sailors.

In my formative years, I was a Kennedy Democrat...much to my father's chagrin.....Lyndon Johnson changed all that for me and I became a Nixon Republican. I stayed that way until the Republican Party decided that they also liked the idea of big government.

Now, I don't really give two hoots about either party. I don't think it matters....once they get into office, they all begin to look and smell the same. I must confess that I have a general mistrust for anyone who runs for public office. Really now, what kind of idiot spends ten million dollars to get a $150,000 a year job?

I don't believe that the average citizen makes much of an impact on what goes on in Washington, D.C., but, I do think that there can be influence brought to bear in the local venue.

That is what I would like to do with this column; focus on local policies and the govermental entities who make those policies. It is my hope to raise certain issues so that they can be discussed in an open forum.

I hope that the readers will join me in this effort.

Curious, tho, how many people have responded to your request?

You are right ...they don't pay much attention, but, it is stilleasier to bring pressure to bear on them than at the national level.....that was evidenced to some degree in the last local election......and, if this behavior by the city commission keeps up, in two years I think you will see a real backlash....to answer your question, not as many as I would like....but the numbers are starting to increase......sorry I did not respond sooner...I just never think to check this spot........

I emailed this to Mr. Strawn who had initially responded to my emails and calls. I do NOT get a response from anyone any more-- NOT our DA, NOT the GAL's, NOT the ATTORNEYS, NOT Representative HAWK... all I want to know is WHY this happened! I am considering getting a Grand Jury investigation into what happened with our Domestic, then subsequent Child in Need of Care case in Riley County District Court .

The children had Guardian ad Litem's that were to act under Rule 100 that states that they were to investigate the facts of our case and be an advocate in the BEST interest of the children.

I was TWICE investigated for "child Abuse", both times the allegations were "unsubstantiated" per SRS.

Judge Wilson, stated that it was his opinion that the children were without the care, custody and control necessary to raise them- this was after he court ordered me to take my son for 'therapy' with a 'therapist' that we later learned was is NOT a Licensed therapist, Charlotte Edelman.( 'grandfathered' in). Her grand children were older than my sons),

Judge Wilson also changed the visitation schedule to cater to the schedule of the non-working parent and reduced the child support from the amount being credited by Social Security -to the state level- approximately $200.00 less.

Their GAL's, Social Worker and KVC therapist recommended that our sons be integrated into their fathers home. It was later learned that the U.S. Marshall's service had executed a warrant on his home on May 10, 2006, the items were titled as:

I'd like to get your input as to what you think. What you would do if you were in my shoes. What do you think these are?

Would you be willing to sign a petition to have this matter looked at by our Grand Jury? I was told by Rich Vargo, RC, that it would require almost 300 registered voters signatures.

In researching the court of appeals, it states that they do NOT get involved unless the actions of the Judge would NOT be deemed appropriate by the average citizen. He has since recused himself from our case.

Do you think it is the duty and responsibility of the Kids GAL's to file for an appeal of the decision made in the CINC case, or do I need to be the one that hires an attorney and proceed accordingly. Do you think that their actions were appropriate? I reported what _ _ _ was doing and WHY. His hand written 22 page response to U.S. Bankruptcy Court (case no. 03-42-195-7 clearly reinforces what I had stated. Judge Karlin's description of his demeanor reinforces what I had asserted during our domestic case."
