Every Army post has at least one shoppette. It's a convenience store similar to 7-Eleven, but with a liquor license.

Most shoppettes sell everything from Pop Tarts to diapers to gallon-size bottles of Jose Cuervo.

They also sell those little airplane-sized bottles of liquor, right next to the cash register. There's virtually anything you want - miniature bottles of Kahlua, Bacardi, Jim Beam, etc.

I always try not to look closely at what other people buy.

I don't want to judge.

But the other night Mark couldn't help but notice that the woman in line in front of him purchased only a gallon of milk and two tiny bottles of vodka.

I'll bet she's glad it's Friday. So am I.

TGIF, people. TGIF. Hope you all have a happy and safe weekend.

I'm already looking forward to cocktail hour today. Happy Friday to you too!

carolmac - It's 2:15 here. I'm wondering: Is it too early to start?

Did you see the Ellen clip with Gladys Hardy on the phone? "I love Jesus but I drink a little." ;D One summer, I worked as a cashier at a PX. You really had to work hard to ignore what people were purchasing. And the things they would put on DPP! I'm surprised I didn't bite my tongue off that summer.

For the record - I stopped at the shoppette today and bought so much that I needed a cart. They don't usually have them, but one of the clerks was nice enough to get me one from the back. What was in my haul? A case of beer, a bottle of tequila, two bottles of wine and a bottle of rum. Figured I might as well stock up while I was thinking about it!

Probably there wasn't one eyebrow raised Jan, it is Super Bowl weekend. We have Super Bowl ad nauseum down here. I think a glass of wine sounds really good and I'm going for one now. ;) Have a great weekend.

Our shoppette gives a case discount on wine. I figure by buying 12 bottles at a time, I'm saving money *and* gas. We definitely have carts at ours!

Ooohhh ... I am going to have to check into that wine discount! This is the first shoppette I've noticed that didn't have carts. I don't know why that is. The Class Six (the bigger liquor store, for the civilians out there) does not have carts either but it's next to the PX and I always just bring a cart over from there. Hmmm ... wonder what it is about Ft. Riley and the lack of carts?!?!?

2/2/2009

I don't think I've ever seen wine at the shoppettes on Fort Riley, but since I'm a 300-pound featherweight drunk I don't look. However, I went to the Class Six and saw a sign about the discount when he was on block leave at Christmas time. Ah, block leave :o) I can't imagine shopping carts, there's barely enough room at a shoppette, especially with all the displays. Even at the main PX I knocked down about 3 racks of kids clothes last time I tried to use one because I couldn't get a cart through. I hope the new PX is planned with more open space. Can't wait to get to the Starbucks!!!

cdenson - The shoppettes on Riley all sell beer, wine and hard liquor. That's in addition to the Class Six by the PX. I, too, hope the new PX has more room, although I have to say that from the outside it doesn't look that big. We'll see!!!
