Former Kansas State starting pitcher Carlos Torres was called up by the Chicago White Sox and will make his major league debut on Wednesday, the organization has announced.

Torres, who was drafted in the 15th round of the 2004 draft by the White Sox, will start on Wednesday against the defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays, marking the first Wildcat to play in a major league game since Craig Wilson's last appearance in 2000, which also was with the White Sox.

A 2009 International League AllStar, Torres holds an 8-4 record and a 2.20 ERA in 16 starts as the ace for Triple A Charlotte. The right-hander has tossed two complete games -including a rain-shortened perfect game -- this season, while he has recorded 96 strikeouts as opposed to 38 walks. Through play on Tuesday, Torres had the top ERA in the International League, while he was second in strikeouts.
