The Kansas State women's cross country team put together a total team effort on Saturday at the 70th annual Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree, finishing fifth out of the 15 competing teams.

The Wildcat women were led by sophomore Liliani Mendez, who finished sixth overall with a time of 17:47. Already named a two-time Big 12 Runner of the Week on the season, Mendez has paced K-State in three of their first four meets.

The duo of freshman Lindsay Pierson and junior Morgan Bonds crossed the line behind Mendez, finishing 24th and 32nd, respectively. Freshman Megan-Anne Perrin turned in an impressive 59th-place finish and a time of 19:43 as the Wildcats' fourth runner.

"I think this was the best team effort we've had so far this season on the women's side,'' said coach Michael Smith. "We're gaining the experience we need to have for the Big 12 meet."

The men's team was paced by sophomore Colin Swaney who turned in his fastest 8K time of the season (26:21), and a 44th-place finish.

Following Swaney was fellow sophomore Alex Umberger, who turned in a 67th-place showing and a time of 26:46.

The Wildcats will take a week off in preparation for the Chile Pepper Invitational on Oct. 14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
