The Kansas State women's rowing team carried its momentum from Saturday as the Novice Eight and Novice Four won their respective races in "A" finals and captured gold medals at Southern IRA's held at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.


The Wildcats' first title came in the N4+ race when K-State crossed the line three seconds ahead of second place Georgia State.  K-State led the pack right from the start, and held off a strong charge by Georgia State in the last 300-meters.

The Novice Eight successfully defended its title as they cruised the entire field by open water at the half-way mark.  K-State beat second place Central Florida by nine-seconds.  The Wildcats' First N8+ has now captured nine of the 10 races this season.


In the First and Second Varsity Eight races, the Wildcats finished third behind Central Florida and CSU-Sacramento in each events "A" finals.  In a close faught race the 1V8+ raced aggressively and with a strong sprint finish claimed the Bronze medal.  K-State's 2V8+ also showed great determiniation, clawing their way to the Bronze position.


"It was a good weekend for our team, one in which the crews were able to take the next step in performance," said head coach Patrick Sweeney.  "This was very safisfying and exciting to watch."


The next time K-State takes to the water is Sunday, April 29th at the Big 12 Invitational.  Races begin at 11 a.m. on Lake Wyandotte in Kansas City, Kan.
