Following arguably its biggest victory of 2009 thus far, the Kansas State volleyball team will look to sweep its two-game home stand Saturday afternoon against in-state rival Kansas.

First serve for the match is set for 1 p.m.

The match will also mark the first K-State Proud volleyball game, as the student organization plans to evolve into a year-long program.

K-State notched their first Big 12 win of the season Wednesday evening, after defeating Missouri in four sets (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22). The win snapped a seven-match losing streak including a sixmatch stretch to open Big 12 play. "It was a good feeling to get that win in," freshman middle blocker Alex Muff said Thursday after practice.

Kansas enters the match in the midst of a four-game conference losing streak. The Jayhawks (9-8, 2-6) have faced three consecutive top 25 opponents heading into their trip to Manhattan.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats (710, 1-6) will be looking to build off of their impressive offensive and defensive performance Wednesday evening against the Tigers. K-State had several serving rallies against Missouri, including a sevenpoint rally by junior Lauren Mathewson, serving in the fourth and final set. The rally tied the game at 16 and propelled the Wildcats to the win.

"Serving is something that we always stress to keep consistent." Muff said. "I think that really came together during the match against Missouri. It really helped us get our momentum going."

The Wildcats' defensive play also looked improved on Wednesday evening. Three players recorded double-digit digs on the evening with freshman Caitlyn Donahue recording a career-high 22 digs.

"Our defensive intensity and our ability to keep pressuring them with our serves was a huge part of our success." Fritz said. "Winning is a byproduct of doing things the right way. I felt like in a lot of ways we did things the right way."

It was clear that the Wildcats serving was a handicap during their seven-match losing streak.

"I felt like up until now, we haven't been able to keep pressure on them for one reason or another," Fritz said.

"As the serving was going, it was getting more conservative, and I felt like maybe we took a little more risk with our serving last night. There were a combination of high percentage and more aggressive. The combination of those two was nice." In closing their two-game home stand before traveling to Colorado, Fritz's goal is simple against the Jayhawks. "We want to be the best volleyball team in the state of Kansas," she said.
