Kansas State senior outfielder Jordan Cruz signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers and has been assigned to the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Tigers.

Cruz, a native of Hutchinson, becomes the sixth player from last season's team to either be drafted or sign a free agent contract with a Major League club.

Cruz, who earned 2009 Big 12 Honorable Mention honors and was an All-Houston Regional selection, was one of six players who hit .300 or better in 2009. The right fielder hit .324 with 10 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs and 52 RBI.

He teamed with Justin Bloxom, who had 12 home runs, to become the first pair of Wildcats with double-digit homers in the same season since 2005.

A four-year letter winner, Cruz finished his collegiate career with a .292 average with 24 doubles, six triples, 15 home runs and 92 RBI. Cruz was also hit by 26 pitches in his career, good for third in school history.
