Wildcats' Huljev advances at regional

Kansas State junior Antea Huljev registered a pair of victories on Thursday during the second day of competition at the Wilson/ITA Central Regional at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Huljev opened the round of 64 with a victory over Sara Lazarevic of Kansas, 6-4, 6-0. The product of Velenje, Slovenia, reached the round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Valentina Starkova of Arkansas. Huljev improved her fall record to 7-5 and is now 4-4 this fall in matches decided in straight sets. Huljev will now play on Friday against the winner of Alexa Palen of Minnesota and Marie-Pier Huet of Oklahoma.

Nina Sertic also competed in singles on Thursday, but was defeated in the first round by Erin Wilbert of Kansas in three-sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0. Sertic concludes her fall schedule with a 3-7 record.

Earlier on Thursday, Huljev and Sertic played a doubles match against Starkova and Emily Carbone of Arkansas. Carbone and Starkova defeated Huljev and Sertic, 8-2, and conclude doubles action in the fall with a 7-4 record together. K-State's remaining six players on its roster will compete at the Kansas Invitational beginning on Friday morning in Lawrence. WILSON/ITA CENTRAL REGIONAL Day 2 Results Oct. 21-25 Norman, Okla.
